Clematis montana 'Grandiflora'

A member of the Montana group (otherwise known as an Anemone Clematis), this hardy, quick-growing, vigorous climber is a winner of the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. Hundreds of petite, snow white, four petaled flowers, each only reaching around 3" across, bloom so prolifically that they can fully cover the deep green foliage, releasing a gentle, sweet fragrance from their golden anthers. Despite the diminutive size of the flowers, this powerhouse can grow absolutely massive if left to its own devices. No need for regular pruning to keep the blooms coming; just clean up once the flowers are done.
Bloom Time: Late spring to early summer.
Exposure: Afternoon shade.
Size: 25-40' Tall Water: Regular

Pruning: In late January/early February, cut to 6-8” from ground level to a pair of buds. Then cut by half after the first flush of blooms is finished. Feed after each pruning session with well-balanced fertilizer.
