Clematis 'Countess of Lovelace'
Ruffly, playful, maximalist flowers are extraordinarily double, with piles of lavender-violet petals cascading from the ivory center like a fountain. Large (up to 5-7" across), handsome, heavy flower heads bloom magnificently in their first flush, with an additional bloom in late summer that produces single flowers - the best of both worlds! Vigorous, deep green foliage can thrive in containers, in shady landscapes, climbing over fences and up arbors - anywhere it has something to climb and a shady spot to put its roots! Pruning: In late January/early February, cut to 6-8” from ground level to a pair of buds. Then cut by half after the first flush of blooms is finished. Feed after each pruning session with well-balanced fertilizer.
